Virginia N.



Virginia is a student at Dr. Kiano Girls Secondary School. She is 18 years old. She is from the village of Murang'a.

Virginia's mother is deceased, and her 4 siblings live with their father who sells vegetables to support his family.

Virginia enjoys studying history and Christian Religion. One day she hopes to attend college and become a dentist.



Anne W.



Anne is 15 years old and is fom the village of Ol Kalou.

She currently is attending Dr. Kiano Girls Secondary School.

Her mother sells second hand clothing to help support Anne and her younger sister.

Anne enjoys studying math, biology and English. When she graduates, Anne will pursue a career in accounting.

Samuel K.






George B.


George is 18 years old and is a student at Kahithe Secondary School.
His home village is Kariobangi, and he has no parents or siblings.
George enjoys playing sports in his free time. Football is his favorite sport. He also likes to sing.
His favorite subjects in school are biology, math and english.
Someday, George hopes to attend University and study the law. He dreams of becoming either a lawyer or a judge.

Kennedy M.


Kennedy is an exceptional young man with great leadership potential. He is bright and has a natural ability to attract people to him.
Currently Kennedy is a student atKahithe Secondary School where he enjoys studying Math and the sciences. He also speaks three languages including English.
Both Kennedy's parents are deceased and he has two siblings. His home village is Kawangware.
Kennedy has had some health issues, but still works to maintai his studies.
He has dreams of one day becoming a doctor and visiting the United States.

Risper W.


Risper is a student at the Nairobi Girls School. She is 23 years old. Both her parents are living and reside in Murang'a. They sell farm produce in order to support their four remaining children at home.
Risper is a good student who enjoys studying the subjects that are offered at this vocational school.
Risper is interested in becoming either a hairdresser or office manager when she graduates.

Nancy goes to Dr. Kiano Girls Secondary School.
She is 16 years old and is from the village of Murang'a.
Nancy's mother and father live with her 2 brothers and one sister in their village. Her mother sells vegetables to support the family.
At the Dr. Kiano Girls School, Nancy's favorite subjects are biology and chemistry. When she graduates, Nancy hopes to becomes a pharmacist.

Virginia attends the Nairobi Girls School.
She is 17years old and enjoys studying hairdressing, and nurtrition.
Virginia has 3 siblings who live in her home village of Dandora with their guardian.
One day Virginia would like to own a hair salon. She is a very
active young woman who also enjoys singing. On the Thika variety Village retreat she was considered an outstanding leader.

Rhoda K.



Rhoda is 16 years old and attends the Embakasi Girls School.

Her mother is living and supports herself and her three other children by working as a hairdresser.

Rhoda is very ambitious and enjoys studying vey much. When she graduates from secondary school, it is her desire to attend college and become a doctor.


Erastus K.



Erastus is 17 years old. He attends the Muhuri Muchiri Secondary School where he has a B+ average and excells in English, Physics, Chemsitry and religious studies.

His mother is not living, but his father lives in their home village of Murang'o.

Erastus has two siblings, and he dreams of one day becoming a pilot and being able to fly all around the world.


Issac M.



This is Issac. He is 16 years old and attends Muhuri Muchiri Secondary School. Issac's parents are both deceased. He has two siblings, one of whom (his sister) is his legal guardian. His sister sells charcoal to support herself and her two brothers.

Issac maintains a B + average in school and works very hard in his favorite subjects which are Math, English, Biology and Chemistry.

When Issac completes his education in 3 more years, he hopes to become an engineer.


Carolyn N



Carolyn is 18 years old. She is from Karionbangi where her mother and young sister live. Carolyn's mother sells used clothing to support her family.

Carolyn is interested in learning to be a hairdresser and she is also studying home management.

She is described by others as a very active, and happy person who studys hard and does well in school. She posesses confidence and attracts others to her. She is well liked and a good role model for the other students.

Phylis W.





Phyllis is 20 years old. She attends Nairobi Girls School and would like to become a hairdresser.

Both her parents are alive and are living in Ongata Rongai. Phylis has four siblings.


Phylis is an excellent student who is very well liked by her teachers and her peers. At the Thika Variety Village Retreat in August, Phylis was an active participant and was always friendly and warm to others.

Leah N.


Leah is 15 years old. She is from Kinangop where her little brother and sister live with a guardian since Leah's parents are both deceased.
Leah is a student at Nairobi Girls school where she is studying to be a nutritionist.
She is a shy and reserved young lady who is very respectful of teachers and other adults. She has made many friends at school is considered to be very kind.

This is Margaret. She is a student at a Nairobi area vocational school. Margaret is an excellent student with a delightful personality and clever wit. She plans to return for her second year of schooling in January. Her goal is to become trained as a hairdresser and someday own her own salon.

Tracy W.


This is Tracy. She is a student at one of the vocational schools in Nairobi. Tracy loves school and is a leader among her classmates. Reecently, at the Thika Variety Village retreat, Tracy was noticed for her active participation in group discussions. She is a confident young woman who seems to excel in everything she attempts.

Esther N.


Esther attends the Nairobi Girls School. She is 18 years old.
Her mother is alive, and lives in Ongata Rongai. She sells vegetables to help support her 6 children. Esther's father is deceased.
Esther's interests at school include hairdressing , catering, knitting and nutrition.
When she graduates school at the end of next year, Esther hopes to find a job as a hairdresser.
She is a shy girl, but she benefited greatly from her experiences at the Thika Variety Village retreat in August.
